Room fit
What room dimensions does a golf simulator need?
There is no industry standard, and that absence is the finding. Golf Sim Oracle tracks the room figures 12 manufacturers publish for 24 launch monitors: six state a minimum length, eight state a minimum width, and only five state both. That means a floor plan can be drawn from the specification for five of 24 models. Every figure below is the maker's own wording, with the date it was read.
5/24
publish both a minimum length and a minimum width. Only these can have a room planned from the maker’s own figures
6/24
publish a minimum room length
8/24
publish a minimum room width
15/24
publish neither, whatever else the maker prints about the unit
Minimum room length and width, by model
Quoted rather than summarised, because the wording carries the caveat: a maker that says "at least 15 feet long" and a maker that says a room "offers a comfortable setting" at 17 feet are not making the same claim. An empty cell means the maker publishes no figure. It does not mean the unit needs no room.
| Launch monitor | Minimum length | Minimum width | Where the unit sits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your space must be at least 15 feet long | Your space must be at least 8 feet wide. The ball may sit up to 1 ft. (0.3 m) either side of the target line, in a 2 x 2 ft. hitting area | Place the launch monitor on the ground between 6 ft. and 8 ft. (1.8 m and 2.4 m) behind the tee location | |
| Minimum 12 feet long, on SkyTrak’s support site; the sales site separately suggests 17’ as a depth that "offers a comfortable and spacious setting" | Minimum 10 feet wide, on SkyTrak’s support site; the sales site separately suggests 12’ "for a more spacious feel", plus 1’ to 2’ for both-handed play | Sits next to the ball. SkyTrak contrasts this with "other launch monitors that require up to 8’ behind the hitting area" | |

Why most of this table is empty
A launch monitor that sits beside the ball needs less room behind the tee than one that sits six to eight feet back, so the room figure is a property of the unit and not of the game. Makers still skip it: 15 of 24 publish neither a length nor a width anywhere on their own site. Every cell above was read from the maker's own page on the date recorded with it, so an empty cell is a fact about what the maker published and not a measurement of the unit. This page reports what the maker does not state, never what the product does not need.
