Garmin Approach R10

Those two figures are published separately, in different parts of the manual, and almost nobody adds them together before buying. A 12-foot garage clears the price of the unit and fails the geometry, which is the most common and most expensive mistake in this whole category.

Golf Sim Oracle tracks the published space requirement for every launch monitor it covers, and for the Garmin Approach R10 the figures come from Garmin's own owner's manual, read 2026-08-09. Garmin specifies placing the launch monitor on the ground between 6 ft. and 8 ft. (1.8 m and 2.4 m) behind the tee location, and separately requires that the tee location be at least 8 ft. (2.4 m) away from the net when playing indoors. Those two numbers appear in different parts of the manual and are rarely added together before purchase, but added together they set a floor of 14 feet of front-to-back space, rising to 16 feet at the far end of Garmin's own placement range. The manual also defines a 2 x 2 ft. hitting area beginning 6 ft. from the launch monitor, with the ball positioned up to 1 ft. (0.3 m) on either side of the target line. Garmin publishes no minimum ceiling height for the R10. The manual asks only for adequate ceiling height with no object obstructing the backswing or follow through, which leaves the single most common reason a basement build fails as a judgement call rather than a number.

Shallow rooms. If you cannot find 14 feet of depth, no software or mat fixes it, and a camera-based unit that sits beside the ball is the category to look at instead.
