The SkyTrak ST MAX is the only launch monitor of these six whose manufacturer publishes a ceiling-height figure, and because the unit sits beside the ball rather than behind it, it is also the one that asks least of a shallow room.
We have not tested this unit. Every figure below is quoted from SkyTrak's own documentation, with the date it was read.
Verdict
The SkyTrak ST MAX is the only launch monitor of these six whose manufacturer publishes a ceiling-height figure, and because the unit sits beside the ball rather than behind it, it is also the one that asks least of a shallow room.
Room depth is decided by where the device has to sit, not by the device itself. A radar unit wants six to eight feet behind the ball before you have measured anything else, and in a garage that is the difference between a build that works and a build that does not. A camera unit beside the ball removes that requirement entirely.
Golf Sim Oracle tracks the published space requirement for every launch monitor it covers, and the SkyTrak ST MAX is the only one of the six here whose maker prints a ceiling-height figure. On its Plan Your Space page, read 2026-08-09, SkyTrak states that a ceiling height of 10' typically offers ample clearance for most golfers, however many golfers say that 9' is enough. It suggests a room width of 12' for a more spacious feel, with an extra 1' to 2' if both a right and left-handed player will use the bay, and says a room depth of 17' offers a comfortable and spacious setting. The placement figure is the one that changes what fits: SkyTrak notes its launch monitor sits next to the ball, contrasting that with other launch monitors that require up to 8' behind the hitting area. Software is a separate annual cost. SkyTrak's membership page, read the same day, lists Essential at $99.99 a year, Core: Foresight at $249.99, Core: Trackman at $299.99 and Elite at $499.99, so five years of software adds between $499.95 and $2,499.95 on top of the hardware.
